Kokdu: Season of Deity - Pilot Episode Review: "Fair Enough"

 Kokdu Season of Deity is a Korean drama series that airs on MBC and stars Kim Jung Hyun, Lim Soo-Hyang, Kim Da-Som, and An Woo-Yeon. The series is about a love story between a grim reaper and a doctor who has a special ability.

Kok-Du (Kim Jung-Hyun) once incurred God's wrath. As a punishment for his actions, he was transformed into a grim reaper. He is cold and cruel as a grim reaper. His job is to guide deceased spirits to the afterlife. Every 99 years, Kok-Du descends to this world and takes on a human body that resembles him. He murders scumbags who deserve to die. This time, he comes to this world and takes over the body of human Do Jin-Woo. He later becomes involved with Han Gye-Jeol (Lim Soo-Hyang).

Han Gye-Jeol is employed as a visiting physician. People who look down on her credentials intimidate her because she graduated from the country's lowest ranked medical school. Her mother died when she was a child, and she is the only sibling she has. She doesn't have anyone who genuinely cares about her. When Do Jin-Woo appears in front of her, he is the first person in her life to side with her. He has altered her daily routine.

This drama was fair enough in my opinion. I had high hopes for fantasy dramas, and I had high hopes for this one as well. It did a good job for the first two episodes, but I found it too simple. This fantasy drama's simplicity reminded me of the series "My Roommate is a Gumiho," which I believe will focus more on the love story side than the fantasy side. I'm not saying it was bad; it was good, and I enjoyed it so far. It's just that I wish it could add more to the story and its core.

I had already seen the main characters in their previous works. Mr. Queen is, without a doubt, one of my favorite Kim Jung Hyun series. He is skilled in both drama and comedy. I've seen Lim Soo-Hyang in Graceful Family and Gangnam Beauty. She was good in comedies as well, but I prefer her in dramas.

Since this was a review of the first two episodes, I won't say much more because the upcoming episodes may surprise us, which I hope they do. I'm looking forward to the upcoming episodes. What are your thoughts on this one, by the way?
