Weak Hero Class 1 (2022) - Series Review: "Gigil with Pain"

The word "Gigil" is a Filipino term that describes the strong emotion we feel when we see something cute or when we see something bad but can't do anything about it. And "Gigil with pain" is the best phrase to describe this series. This series is unquestionably heartbreaking.

Weak Hero Class 1 is an eight-part korean drama series that premiered on November 18, 2022. It tells the story of Yeon Shi-Eun, played by Park Ji-Hoon. If I'm not mistaken, this was Park Ji-Hoon's first Hoon drama lead, or it was the first drama I watched in which he was the lead. I can definitely say that he is a good drama actor, and that this drama and the character he is playing are a good fit for him. He did an excellent job in the role.

Shi-Eun is a model student who excels academically and ranks first in his class. He appears to be weak because he focuses his attention on studying, but by utilizing his intelligence, tools, surroundings, and even psychology, he was able to fight bad guys on his own, whether in or out of school.

He befriended Choi Hyun-character Wook's An Soo-Hoo as well as Hong Kyung's character Oh Beom-Seok. Shi-Eun and Soo-Ho's relationship in this drama series are excellent. It causes you pain. There were moments when it was clear they genuinely cared for each other and fighting alongside each other strengthens their bond. He also cared for Beom-Seok, but he betrays them for reasons he doesn't understand, possibly jealousy.

Seeing their friend suffer is something they can't ignore. They will fight for them even if it is difficult just to give justice to their feelings. That is what true friendship is like. It hurts when your friend is in pain. And you will go to any length to ensure that he receives the justice he deserves.

I believe theirs was one of the friendships I will never forget. Park Ji-Hoon's eye also played an important role in this series. The honest look gives you the gigil feelings, especially when you know he doesn't do anything, and yet bad people come their way to irritate him. I like how he looks in this series, and his innocent eyes really draw the viewer in.

I hope there will be a season 2 and I hope to see Soo-Ho if there is one. Weak Hero Class 1 will undoubtedly change if both of them are absent or unable to return. Overall, this was one of the saddest endings I've ever experienced. I believe there were only a few who gave you a slightly depressing ending, and this one will be added to the list. And I really don't want this series to end there; it needs a second season.

Would I suggest it? Actually, this series is a little violent for teenagers, but if you dig deeper into why they did it, it's a great series to watch. Shi-Euns 'violent nature is frightening, but he is an innocent who will not act violently unless pushed to his breaking point. How about you? Have you watched this one?
