Our Blooming Youth (2023) - Pilot Episode Review: "Weird Conflicts"

On Mondays and Tuesdays, "Our Blooming Youth" has replaced "Missing: The Other Side 2" on tvN. Crown Prince Lee Hwan (Park Hyung-Sik) and Min Jae's (Jeon Yi's So-Nee) fateful love is the focus of the story.

Crown Prince Lee Hwan is arrogant, cruel, and capricious toward others. He also knows about a mysterious curse. As a result, he is a lonely person who conceals a deep scar within his mind. Meanwhile, Min Jae-Yi is a brilliant young woman from a prestigious noble family. Her entire family is brutally murdered, and she is accused of the crime. People attempting to arrest her pursue her.

The first episode depicts the core of the story, in which the Crown Prince was plagued by a so-called curse after being taught that he was the one who killed his brother in order to ascend to the throne and become the Crown Prince. He received a letter that appeared unexpectedly in his room, and because no one entered the room, he assumed it was a ghost letter. After receiving the letter, he was shot in the back, causing his hand to shake whenever he recalls it.

People believed he was crippled because they never saw the Crown Prince hold the brush to write. Rumors began to circulate, prompting him to participate in a hunt to prove that he was not crippled, which turned out to be fine because he was able to prove himself.

The first episode, on the other hand, depicts the death of Min Jae-family Yi's and her desperate attempt to save her life so that he can prove her innocence. He pretended to be a man in order to gain access to the Crown Prince's guards. Min Jae-Yi believes that becoming close to the Crown Prince will reveal the true cause of her family's death.

It was a good story, and the acting was good, but there were too many conflicts, and it became weird to watch. Weird in a good way, and I hope the mystery can be revealed in a just manner. In other words, I hope they did the story justice in the upcoming episodes.

I'm not sure if I'd enjoy girls pretending to be men, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just that I believe "To The Beautiful You" will remain my favorite story in the pretending to be other gender series. It was, after all, just for me. Again, it was good, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they make this series more interesting in future episodes.
