St. Francis of Assisi Parish - Diocese of Imus

Continuing my church visit, the next was the  first Catholic Church in my town, General Trias, which is the St. Francis of Assisi Parish or also called General Trias Church. It can be found at the city town proper of General Trias in Cavite near the municipal hall. 

The patron saint of the Parish of St. Francis of Assisi and the whole town of General Trias is St. Francis of Assisi also called San Francisco de Malabon or "Tata Kiko". St. Francis of Assisi is well-known saint because of many miracles he performed involving animals and birds, and even his compassion for healing critically ill and injured people. He became the first ever saint who exhibits Christ wound, known as stigmata.

Saint Francis of Assisi is considered as the patron saint of animals, merchant and ecology. The feast was formerly celebrated on April and still was being celebrated as "Lumang Pistang Bayan" but the main town fiesta is celebrated on the Memorial of St. Francis of Assisi on the month of October, October 4. 

I visited the church on October 1, 2023, sunday before the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. During my visit there was a short procession of Tata Kiko around the plaza in front of the parish as part of the start of the Town Fiesta. Let's us pray that just like St. Francis of Assisi we can be as dedicated as him to imitate the life, and carry out the work of Christ. Just like him, we pray that we can live the world without obsessing to materials things and find joy in poverty, and remind ourselves that even without the wealth the true treasure is the love of God.
