The Forbidden Marriage (2022) - Pilot Episode Review: "Very Young and Unordinary"

"The Forbidden Marriage" tells the story of a King who has been troubled by the death of the Crown Princess for seven years, beginning the day she died. Kim Young-Do portrayed Lee Heon, the King's name. And because he was unable to move on from the Crown Princess, he has been single for the past years, causing marriage to be prohibited throughout the country until the King marries.

The news that the King was gay and impotent spread throughout the country. Perhaps it appears that the King did not want to marry again, but the King did intend to marry again, but during the selection process, the probable Queen-to-be died unexpectedly, causing the selection to be canceled. Because of the fear that the traitor was the one who caused the death, the King did not intend to make any selection or postponed it for a long time.

On the other hand, the series also features Park Ju-Hyun as a swindler named Ye So-Rang. She claims to be able to decipher martial harmony signs. She is arrested and imprisoned near the workplace of Lee Shin-Won, played by Kim Woo-Seok. Because the jail is full of men who stare at her and make her feel gross, she pretends to be possessed by a spirit in order to get out of the situation. The King overheard her pretending to be possessed.

So-Rang was then summoned to the King's Chamber to determine whether she truly possessed divine eyes and could see the ghost. The King requests that he investigate whether there is a ghost surrounding him, which the King believes is the late Crown Princess. She pretended to be possessed by the Crown Princess and was able to portray a character who was close to the Crown Princess. The King believed in her, and one of his officers advised him to keep her close by so that he could let go of the Crown Princess. This will be the beginning of Ye So-Rang lies becoming larger and more audacious.

When compared to the recently concluded "Under the Queen's Umbrella," this was very young. Kim Young-Do appears to be a young King, but he portrays it very well. Young in terms of the story's heaviness. Though it was not overly heavy, the vibes were youthful and romantic. I have a feeling it will not be the typical heavy throne battle, but rather the King's sweet, innocent love, while also discovering the truth about the death of the Crown Princess.

Also, I can tell from the first episode that this will be a fun series. The pilot episode made me laugh out loud. The presence of a young King lightens and amuses the story. Overall, it was a fun and youthful series. I will definitely watch it until the end because sometimes a good laugh is all we need. I hope they made the story more interesting while also complicating it. The actors did a good job of making the scene more amusing. Let's see what the next episode has in store.
