Byeon Mu-Jin was married to Geum Ye-Yeon (Kim Ji-Soo). They had a daughter, Byeon Mi-Rae (Son Na-Eun), and a son, Byeon Hyun-Jae (Yoon San-Ha), during their marriage. While married, Byeon Mu-Jin attempted various business ventures, but all his efforts ended in failure. Over time, his family could no longer endure his struggles, leading them to cut ties with him. After their divorce, Geum Ye-Yeon faced significant challenges raising their two children alone. Fast forward 11 years, and she now works part-time at a big mart, juggling her responsibilities as a mother.
One day, Byeon Mu-Jin reappears in their lives, now as the owner of the villa building where they live. With hopes of rekindling his relationship with Geum Ye-Yeon, he attempts to win her back, but Mi-Rae vehemently opposes her father's efforts. Hyun-Jae, however, surprisingly supports their father’s attempts at reconciliation, creating a rift between the siblings.
Amidst the family turmoil, Mi-Rae begins to develop feelings for Nam Tae-Pyeong (Minho), a former national taekwondo team member who now works as a security guard at the same mart. Unbeknownst to Mi-Rae, he conceals his true identity and the fact that his father is the owner of the mart, adding layers of complexity to their budding romance.
Directed by Kim Da-Ye and written by Kim Young-Yoon, "Romance in the House" explores themes of family, love, and reconciliation amidst the chaos of life. Set to premiere on August 10, 2024, the series will air on JTBC every Saturday and Sunday at 22:30.
"Romance in the House" takes over the JTBC's Saturday & Sunday 22:30 time slot previously occupied by "Miss Night and Day."
Author's Note:
I find the series both normal yet intriguing. The story introduces a compelling mystery in the first episode and continues to build on the suspense through the second. I appreciate how, despite being primarily a romance, the show successfully weaves in a mysterious element.
The young female lead shows potential, though her acting still has room for growth. At times, her performance feels a bit awkward, but it's manageable, and she still delivers a decent portrayal. So far, so good.
