The Golden Spoon (2022) - Series Review: "Always Comes with a Price"

MBC's drama series "The Golden Spoon" ended on the 16th episode last night, November 12, 2022. It occupied the time slot previously held by Big Mouth. Yook Sung-Jae plays Lee Seung-Cheon, Lee Jong-Won plays Hwang Tae-Young, Jung Chae-Yeon plays Na Ju-Hee, and Yeon Woo plays Oh Yae-Jin.

This fantasy drama tells the story of people who wish to become wealthy. It centers with the story of Lee Seung-Cheon who desperately want to end his poor life. Due to his desperation, he was able to meet the old woman selling the golden spoon, which promised to make him wealthy if he ate using it three times at the house of a friend of the same age. He was hesitant, but out of desperation, he purchased it and attempted to use it. It was also revealed to him that he would be swapping lives with his friends with whom he shared a meal using the golden spoon, implying that you would be swapping and abandoning your real parents.

IIt was an excellent drama. I guess the webtoon stories were really good. True Beauty, Itaewon Class, Extraordinary You, Cheese in the Trap, and Memorist were among the webtoon-based dramas I enjoyed. Golden Spoon, of course, was added to the list.

It was wonderful to see Yook Sung-Jae again. I mistakenly assumed he was the same person as Seo In-Guk. I know that when their photos were pasted side by side, you could tell they were different people. But without doing so and focusing on the drama, I assumed they were the same. I just assumed they were the same without researching them on the internet, especially while watching the drama.

This series will show you that everyone, rich or poor, has their own battles, struggles, and problems. It teaches us that if we are honest with ourselves, we can overcome any difficulty we face. Lee Seung Cheon was able to excel in what he did when he became Hwang Tae-Young, and vice versa when Hwang Tae-Young became Lee Seung Cheon. They were very different when they played out each other's lives.

The swapping of families was already an intriguing plot, but it became even more intriguing when a murder occurred, as well as the family issues that both families were dealing with. I know what Lee Seung-Cheun did was clearly wrong, but even after he became wealthy, he never forgot his family, who were the true reason he desired to become wealthy. In the real world, some people are able to forget where they came from when they taste the world of the rich and powerful, but Lee Seung-Cheun is not one of them. Even though he has some regrets, he knows what he was doing was for his family.

It became even more fascinating when it was revealed that he was not the only one who used the Golden Spoon, and when the people around them became aware of the Golden Spoon's truth. Every week, the series was able to provide something that piqued the viewers' interest in the story. I had no idea what was going to happen until the very end. I really like how the series was created, and it was very well-crafted.

I don't want to give too much away, but my favorite part was when his Father discovered what he had done to become wealthy. Of course, it was heartbreaking for a father, but he understands his son. He recognizes that his son's decision may have been influenced by his inability to provide for his family. His love for his son was undeniably genuine. And I believe what happened in Episodes 14 and 15 was one of the most significant costs Lee Seung Cheon's must bear.

Until the very end, in Episode 16, the revelation tells us that everything has a price. You became wealthy, but then you died. If you want to understand what I'm talking about, you should watch until the end because you will realize that there is always a price to pay in everything.

Overall, this was an excellent drama. The way they ended the story was good, making those who want to become wealthy pay the price. It is wrong to steal someone's parents, and they must understand that it does not always result in happiness. Will I suggest it? Yes, you will get a lot of takeaways from this drama and real-life realizations, just like I did. I've fantasized about becoming wealthy, but I wouldn't trade my parents for it. I want to become wealthy alongside them, not by abandoning them.

I'd love to hear what you think about with this drama. Please leave your opinions in the comments section below.
